Personal Stories
Rumi has this to say about telling a story…
“A story is like water that you heat for your bath. It takes messages between the fire and your skin. It lets them meet, and it cleans you. Very few can sit down in the middle of the fire itself… We need intermediaries. A feeling of fullness comes, but usually it takes some bread to bring it. Beauty surrounds us, but usually we need to be walking in a garden to know it.”
A story provides an opportunity for the teller to reveal some of the fire that blazes within them. It can re-create beauty and fullness, both within the heart of the speaker, and the listener. Stories are vehicles for us to bring forth what is normally hidden from us in day-to-day life. The telling of it, and the choosing of what to tell, re-ignites the soul’s desire to reveal itself to the one who is listening.
We invite you to read some of our community member’s personal stories, let them touch you, ignite a spark of knowing. Enjoy this being bathed with that secret water we sometimes have access to within us that warms us, and brings forth a smile of recognition.
You may notice that although the stories are different, there is a common mythological thread woven through them all, which is likely to be woven through your own life. May these stories bring you more in touch with that golden thread within you.
