The Hero's Journey for Young Women

Join with other young women as you undertake the Journey of a lifetime- a Journey that is both outward into nature’s vast wilderness, and also inward, into the nature of your own heart and soul.
You will have a rare opportunity to explore and question what matters most to you. You will seek and pursue a path of adventure that is yours (and yours alone) to travel. As you go further into your Journey, you will face challenges that bring forth your inner wisdom and power, as you face the particular fears that hold you back. You will learn about your inner strength and beauty, and move in the direction of dream you hold for your adult life. Finally, you will learn how you are not alone, as you discover the great gift of support and community that is waiting for you on the Journey.
What is the Hero’s Journey?
The Hero's Journey for Young Women is a life-altering and life-giving experience drawing from the mythic map of the hero’s Journey that has guided every culture and tradition since the beginning of time. It is an immersion into the ancient cycle of leaving home, experiencing adventure, joining with allies, challenging fears and limiting beliefs, gaining insight, celebrating renewed vitality and then returning home to bring the gifts of the Journey alive for ourselves and others. The call is to the adventure of discovering more about the one wild and precious life that is waiting for you. It calls you to become the hero of your own life.
Inside each young woman’s heart, there is a desire to be recognized and witnessed by her peers as well as older women.
The Hero's Journey for Young Women recognizes this desire lives deep with you. This type of Journey must be undertaken with others of similar age, those from different walks of life, who are also seeking life-giving adventures. At times, you will also join with a larger circle of older women, including the elders of our community. The Journey brings you alive in a community with vital others, so that you may be able to do the same as you return to daily living.
You can receive courage, strength and wisdom from older women who hold no expectations for you, except those you hold for yourself. Learn more about what deep nurturance feels like. Feel how others can offer hope, and share in a desire that you discover and live your own true life more fully.
What to expect...
We will spend a lot of time outdoors, exploring the forests, mountains, caves and wide-open fields of one of the most scenic and wild areas of the Appalachian Mountains. In the evenings, we will share "council circles” with women, supported by beautiful evening fires, which reflect back to you the fire within your own heart. We will be discovering what it means to be in relationship with the four elements of nature-water, earth, air and fire.
We will sleep in tents, with bathrooms and showers available. In addition, three delicious meals will be prepared daily for you, to nourish your body, as you learn to nourish your soul.
The Hero's Journey for Young Women is facilitated by Cindy Petrakis-Mason and Janet Wepner, in collaboration with the collective Hero’s Journey Facilitation and Stewarding Staff.
