Sacred Manhood Project

Serving Self, Other, and the World

"The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are…

a vital person vitalizes the world.”

–Joseph Campbell

If we wish to remain vital and generous throughout the whole of our lives, we come to realize that our response to the second half of our life must be true to what wants to live through us. The soul’s imperative to reclaim its one true life and live it fully inevitably breaks the horizon, in one way or another. And its arrival will trouble even the most successful of outer lives until it is listened to and responded to with care…

What is the life you have come to live?

TheSacred Manhood Project is a nine-month journey of spiritual investigation, soul exploration and relational attunement that is offered for men who desire to faithfully follow the noble callings of self-remembrance and life-service that are the hallmarks of maturity in a man’s life… the stage of Sacred Manhood.

We are a geographically widespread, yet intentionally focused community of men who practice living ordinary lives in an extraordinary way… a community of seekers dedicated to living fully into The Questions of our times and, indeed, of all times.

What is the transformative gift that I bring to this life, to this planet and its peoples, at this time?

How might I live with integrity, joy and generative purpose in a world that is crying out for such gestures of the heart?

What do I live by and what do I live for?

How might I nurture a vital presence that continuously regenerates my living and likewise enlivens the whole of life?

The program is centered around two 4-day residential retreats: an autumn gathering held at The Mountain Institute in West Virginia and a spring retreat held at The Lifebridge Sanctuary in New York. The residential work is interwoven within a nine-month cycle of:

  • Teaching segments: offered through assigned readings and audio lectures and meditations.
  • Awareness Practices: that support our personal exploration of how we each are living into the central themes and questions of the Sacred Manhood journey.
  • Writing: personal journal process work and group dialogues hosted on our private website forum.
  • Whole group TeleCouncil conference calls.
  • Regional group meetings and/or TeleCouncils.
  • Personal phone session work with Joseph Jastrab.

The Sacred Manhood Project is facilitated by Joseph Jastrab

and Michael Mervosh.
